There’s No Place Like Home for the Holidays

By Dominique Flemings

“And no matter how far away you roam… for the holidays, you can’t beat home sweet home.” So say the Carpenters, and I’m inclined to believe them. I enjoy Tokyo so, but I cannot wait for the wonderful sight of my family’s home nestled a good measure of snow with more floating tranquilly downwards. I had a near scare, as, due to a dilemma possible only through the enigmatic quagmires of the airline industry, my flight was almost canceled and there were no other immediate replacements. However, it all worked out, and I leave the tarmac in a few hours.

I’d like to wish all of you readers a merry Christmas, whether you’re heading home to stay with family as I am or have your own family right here in Japan to celebrate the holidays with. As for me, I intend on drinking plenty of eggnog and cider, eating far too much dessert and other holiday delicacies (particularly my dear grandma’s Tourtière), enjoy It’s a Wonderful Life on Christmas Eve, and have a wonderful Christmas day with my family. It’s hard to believe that, in twenty-four hours, I’ll be home, but such is the wonder of modern technology. Adieu, readers, and Merry Christmas!
